On December 17, 2025 Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn hosted a National Forum of rectors of higher education institutions of the country entitled “The Role of Higher Education in the Implementation of the National Idea of Ungujol”. The event was attended by heads of 33 higher education institutions that are members of the association of higher education institutions, who presented and discussed common goals.
The chairman of the Association, Rector of Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn, Professor Dogdurbek Chontoev, opened the meeting with an introductory speech, noting that in the implementation of the national idea of “Ungujol”, universities perform a special mission – to form the intellectual potential of the country and serve as a strategic instrument for the development of the state, and spoke about the mission, priorities and challenges of universities in the implementation of the national idea of “Ungujol”. According to the Rector:
The mission until 2030 is to become scientific, educational and training centers capable of implementing the national idea of “Ungujol”. Universities should be strategic partners of the state, contributing to the development of personnel, science and innovations; educate civically responsible, competent and strategically thinking leaders; create a national scientific and educational infrastructure; strengthen international integration and increase the prestige of Kyrgyzstan in the global academic arena. Regular forums, strategic sessions and scientific events make the Association the main driver of modernization of the higher education system. Expanding the participation of the country’s universities in the QS rankings is a separate priority until 2030.
State Secretary of the Kyrgyz Republic Arslan Koichiev emphasized that the national idea of “Unguzhol” in Kyrgyzstan is not an abstract concept, but, first of all, the systematization and concentration of the forces of our citizens, public organizations and state institutions in one ideological direction. At the same time, he instructed Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn to fulfill a special task as a basic educational institution in the dissemination and promotion of the national idea.
The National University is obliged not only to train specialists, but also to form the intellectual and cultural elite of the country. As a university leading the Association of Higher Education Institutions, the National University is obliged to coordinate initiatives among higher education institutions in the implementation of the national idea; develop scientific and methodological programs and educational materials; create research platforms and interdisciplinary laboratories; organize national forums, conferences and discussion platforms.
During the Forum, Deputy Minister of Science, Higher Education and Innovations Nurlan Omurov spoke about the role of the Association of Higher Education Institutions in promoting educational reforms and proposed creating a roadmap for cooperation, strengthening interaction with the Ministry, and launching pilot projects.
At the meeting, Rector of Kyrgyz National Agrarian University named after K.I. Skryabin, Rysbek Nurgaziev, Rector of Osh State University, Kudaiberdi Kojobekov, and Rector of Kyrgyz State Technical University named after I. Razzakov, Mirlan Chynybaev, made reports on the work being carried out in their educational institutions to implement the national idea of “Ungujol”. After the reports were discussed and the resolution of the Forum was adopted, the heads of the higher education institutions were awarded the jubilee medal “100 years of Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn”.
