On June 4, 2025 a meeting was held at the Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn between the Rector of KNU, Professor Dogdurbek Chontoev and representatives of the Institute of Geography and Natural Resources of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
During the meeting the parties discussed the prospects for scientific cooperation, especially in the field of water, climate and environmental issues common to the Central Asian region. Professor Chontoev emphasized the importance of interaction with China as a strategic partner of Kyrgyzstan in addressing these issues.
The scientific director of the Center for Regional Economic Research and Planning of the Institute of Geography and Natural Resources of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Dong Socheng, presented an analysis of the influence of geographical factors on economic development, providing a general overview of the situation in Eurasia. He noted that the Chinese Academy of Sciences is actively cooperating with the Russian Federation and the Central Asian countries in this area. The Chinese delegation also included geographers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Li Jingwen, Tao Baoxiang and Zhao Chuanyu. At the end of the meeting, the parties exchanged souvenirs. The Rector of KNU invited his Chinese colleagues to take part in the ceremonial events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the university, which will take place on October 24–25, 2025, with the participation of high-ranking officials of the country and other honored guests.
