On June 3, 2025 the Rector of the Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn, Professor Dogdurbek Chontoev, met with the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Kyrgyzstan, Mr. Mekin Mustafa Kemal Okem.

During the meeting, the Rector congratulated Mr. Ambassador on his new position and thanked Turkey for its support in the field of education. He noted the successful cooperation between the KNU and Turkish universities, emphasizing that projects such as student and faculty mobility programs, joint scientific conferences, research projects, summer schools and language courses are being 33actively undertaken. TİKA, the Supreme Council of Higher Education of Turkey (YÖK) and partner Turkish universities have been providing great support in these efforts.

In turn, the Turkish Ambassador, Mr. Mekin Mustafa Kemal Okem, expressed his readiness to cooperate in the field of education and noted that it is an honor to cooperate with the National University named after Jusup Balasagyn, a valuable ppartner for the Turkic world.

At the end of the meeting, the Rector presented the Ambassador with a five-volume book by Jusup Balasagyn and other souvenirs. Then, the Ambassador visited the “Aziz Sanjar Kyrgyz-Turkish Resource Center” and the “Turkish Language Learning Center” and talked with students studying the language.

Cooperation between the Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn and the Republic of Turkey continues successfully. A number of important projects have been implemented as follows:

  • The Turkish Language Learning Center (TTEÖMER) was opened by the Turkish Embassy in 2016, and teachers from Turkey have been conducting free courses. In the 2024-2025 academic year, 386 students attended.
  • In the 2024-2025 academic year, the Turkish side paid the tuition fees of 23 students (1 million soms).

The following projects were implemented with the support of TIKA:

  • In 2016, laboratory equipment was provided to the faculties of chemistry, physics, and biology;
  • In 2017, the “Aziz Sanjar Kyrgyz-Turkish Resource Center” was opened
  • In 2019, the “Center for Digital and Innovative Technologies” was opened
  • On November 6, 2024, the “Bilim Bishkek” Innovation Center was opened, and the event was attended by Emine Erdogan, the wife of the Turkish President. The center has created STEAM educational conditions for children aged 6–14.

These efforts are the results of friendship and partnership relations between KNU and Turkey in the field of education.
