On May 19, 2026 Alaibek Shamshiev, First Vice-Rector and Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn, met with Mary Stegmeier, Vice-Rector for International Programs at the University of Missouri (USA).

During the meeting, the parties discussed expanding international cooperation, sharing academic experience, and implementing joint educational programs.

Alaibek Shamshiev noted that Kyrgyz National University is interested in collaborating with the University of Missouri, a prestigious US institution with a well-developed research program, and expressed confidence that such a partnership will enhance scientific potential and bring mutually beneficial results to both parties. He also highlighted the University of Missouri’s scientific achievements in medicine, biology, and journalism.

In her speech, Ms. Mary Stegmeier expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and emphasized that expanding international opportunities for students and faculty and strengthening joint research projects are important areas of mutual cooperation.

Then, the Vice-Rector met with KNU students and provided detailed information about the master’s and doctoral programs, international educational opportunities, research projects, and funding mechanisms.
