On July 23, 2025 the Kyrgyz National University hosted a meeting between the First Vice-Rector and Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Alaibek Shamshiev and students and professors from Kyungpook National University (Daegu, South Korea), who arrived in Kyrgyzstan to participate in a scientific conference and undergo field training.
The meeting was moderated by Murataly Duishonakunov, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Geography, Ecology and Tourism. He reported that 5 professors, 13 students and 2 master’s students arrived from Kyungpook National University. Their visit will last from July 23 to 31, during which they will conduct field training on the shores of Issyk-Kul and in the Osh region together with colleagues from the Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn and the American University of Central Asia.
In his welcoming speech, Alaibek Shamshiev briefly spoke about the structure and international relations of KNU, projects implemented jointly with Korean universities. He then noted that such events are important, since they allow to get acquainted with the nature of Kyrgyzstan, the traditions of the Kyrgyz people, and conduct joint scientific research. In conclusion of his speech, Alaibek Shamshiev proposed to create an Association of geography students of Kyungpook National University and the Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn.
Further, Alaibek Shamshiev presented memorable gifts to the Korean professors.
Professor of Kyungpook National University Mr. Ou Jeong Sik thanked the Kyrgyz side for the warm welcome, noted that it was a great honor and responsibility for him to conduct field training with students in Kyrgyzstan. “The most important thing, dear students, is that you need to communicate more and be active and curious”, Mr. Ou Zheung Sik concluded.
Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Kyungpook National University, Professor Jae Hem Lee also thanked the KNU leadership for the warm welcome, introduced the participants of the event from the Korean side, and spoke about the purpose and program of the educational field practice.
Korean professors supported the proposal of Alaybek Shamshiev to create the Association, and noted that they would make every effort to make this idea a reality. After a short break, the seminar began, where academic presentations were made by: Murataly Duishonakunov (KNU), Cholponbek Ormukov (AUCA) and Oktyabr Topbaev (KNU).
