As part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn, the university was presented with a valuable gift – a collection of scientific literature in Japanese and English on American studies.

The main donor is Professor Emeritus of Saitama University, former President of the Japanese Association for American Studies and Honorary Foreign Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Professor Natsuki Aruga.

The collection includes 2,358 books which are rare and valuable publications collected over the past 20-50 years on American studies, including works on women’s history and social history of the 1970s – a key period in the development of gender studies. These books represent a significant academic resource and are intended for use in the educational and scientific activities of the university’s faculty and students.

These books were donated to the Faculty of International Relations and Oriental Studies, which trains specialists in American studies. The unique editions will become an important academic resource for the faculty’s teachers and students in their educational and scientific activities. The tteaching staff of the Faculty of International Relations and Oriental Studies express their sincere gratitude to Professors Natsuki Aruga and Kentaka Aruga for the valuable gift, as well as to the directors of the Kyrgyz-Japanese Human Development Center (KRJC) from the Japanese and Kyrgyz sides for organizational support and resolving issues related to customs clearance. This contribution is of great importance for the development of university science and strengthening international academic cooperation.

The ceremony of handing over the books was attended by representatives of KNU named after J. Balasagyna: Rector, Professor Chontoev D.T., Vice-Rector for Science Kamchybek uulu M., Acting Dean of the Faculty of International Relations and Oriental Studies Kazak kyzy N., from the KRJC side: Co-Director from the Japanese side Tanaka Shinya, Co-Director from the Kyrgyz side Azimov Almazbek, Business Networking Expert Mori Khanae, Communications Specialist Akmatbekova Gulzat and General Department Manager Toktokadyrov Zharkynbek.

The total number of books transferred was 2,328 copies, including 1,710 books in English and 618 books in Japanese. The books are packed in 60 boxes, the total weight of the cargo is 900 kg.

The cost of the transferred books is estimated at approximately 10,000,000 soms. The main donor was Professor Natsuki Aruga, who also paid the transportation costs of 14,000 US dollars.

The Japanese Center helped in the transfer of books from the Japanese side to KNU, including customs clearance procedures.
