On June 14, 2025 teachers and professors of the Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn, headed by the Rector, Professor Dogdurbek Chontoev, took part in the Second International Conference on Educational Cooperation and Scientific and Technical Exchange between China and Central Asian Countries within the framework of “One Belt – One Road” Initiative. The event was held on the Yuquan campus of North-West Polytechnical University in Xi’an and was held under the topic: “Central Asia from the Point of View of Regional and Country Studies Approach”. The opening ceremony and plenary session were held as part of the conference.
On the same day, the Kyrgyzstan Center was officially opened at North-West Polytechnical University, where scientists from the two countries will conduct joint research in the field of languages and literature, history, geography and IT technologies. The research results will be published in special publications. Let us recall that such a center is opening for the first time in universities of the People’s Republic of China. Before this, such centers (Chinese centers) were opened only in Kyrgyzstan.
The ceremony was attended by deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh (Parliament) of the Kyrgyz Republic, representatives of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, the leadership of the North-West Polytechnic University, the Rector of KNU Professor Dogdurbek Chontoev, as well as leading experts and scientists from China, Central Asia and other countries, including Professor Luo Lin (Chinese Academy of Social Sciences), Li Zhenli (Russian Academy of Sciences), Zhonghai (Secretary General of the Chinese Society for the Study of Eastern Europe and Central Asia), as well as delegations from universities in Algeria, Kazakhstan and other countries.
Particular attention during the visit was paid to the meeting of the Rector of KNU with Kyrgyz students studying under the double degree program at Xi’an University. Professor Chontoev inquired about the conditions of their studies, listened to proposals and expressed support for the further development of joint educational programs.
Another significant event was the official inclusion of the Rector of KNU, Professor Dogdurbek Chontoev, in the expert analytical platform at the North-West Polytechnic University. This is recognition of the academic authority and international contribution of KNU to the development of scientific and educational cooperation.
