On May 15, 2026 the IV International Congress of Geographers of the Turkic World was held at the Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn.
The event was attended by Edita Taygaraeva, Deputy of the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz Republic, Bekbosun Borubashev, and representatives of the Kyrgyz Geographical Society and higher education institutions of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan.
The main goal of the congress is to develop geographical research among scientists of the Turkic world, conduct scientific work on the sustainable development of regions, and discuss topical geographical issues.
At the official opening ceremony of the congress, the Rector of the Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn, Professor Dogdurbek Chontoev, noted that the science of geography is of great importance not only in studying the relationship between nature and society in the living space of humanity, but also in determining the main directions of sustainable development. He also expressed confidence that the Conference will enhance the exchange of experience between scientists of the Turkic world, contribute to the strengthening of friendly relations, and that the scientific conference will achieve its goals and make important recommendations.
Scientific reports were heard at the event, and discussions were held on their basis.
It is worth noting that the Congress was jointly organized by the Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn, the Kyrgyz Geographical Society, the Ishenali Arabayev Kyrgyz State University, the Kusein Karasayev Bishkek State University, and the Osh State University.
