On September 26, 2025, a roundtable discussion entitled “The Global Governance Initiative: A Foundation for Mutually Beneficial Cooperation in the New Environment” was held at Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn (KNU). The event was attended by Edil Joldubaevich Baisalov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic; Ms. Liu Jiangping, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Kyrgyz Republic; Karim Lemzarovich Khanjeza, Member of the Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic; representatives of government agencies and organizations, higher education institutions, as well as Chinese scholars and researchers.
KNU Rector and Professor Dogdurbek Chontoev moderated the meeting. Opening the event, he noted that the 25th SCO Summit was held in Tianjin, China, in September of this year. At the Summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced the Global Governance Initiative (GGI), which aims to improve the UN’s work and the interaction of countries around the world based on peace, friendship, and mutually beneficial cooperation. Last September, during his address to the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov expressed his full support for the organization’s efforts to ensure international security, address global social, economic, and climate challenges, and protect human rights and freedoms. These words resonate with the ideas of the GGI. Concluding his opening remarks, the Rector of KNU said: “I believe that today’s discussion is highly relevant and will make a significant contribution to the study and understanding of the GGI.”
Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Edil Baisalov noted that cooperation with the People’s Republic of China is a priority in Kyrgyzstan’s foreign policy. The partnership between the two countries is comprehensive and strategic, and relations between the Kyrgyz Republic and China are strengthening year after year based on friendship, good-neighborliness, and mutual trust. This is evidenced by the ongoing political dialogue and personal, trusting relationships between the heads of state. This year, to note, Sadyr Japarov and Xi Jinping met three times. According to him, the Global Governance Initiative is more relevant than ever for Kyrgyzstan, as the current chair of the SCO.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Kyrgyz Republic Ms. Liu Jiangping expressed her sincere gratitude to the Administration of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Edil Baisalov, and Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn for their support and hosting of this event. She then spoke in detail about the Global Governance Initiative (GGI), which was launched by Chinese President Xi Jinping during the recently concluded Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, China.
