On April 21, 2026 Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kyrgyz Republic Hirano Ryuichi visited Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn.
During the visit, the Ambassador met with the KNU staff, led by Rector Professor Dogdurbek Chontoev.
The Rector of KNU congratulated Mr. Hirano Ryuichi on the beginning of his diplomatic mission in Kyrgyzstan and noted the importance of educational cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Japan. He also briefed the head of the Japanese diplomatic mission on the centers and educational programs at KNU.
Following the official part, the Ambassador met with students of the Kyrgyz-Japanese Institute and the Faculty of International Relations and Oriental Studies. They discussed the students’ choice of subjects, scholarship programs, and the peculiarities of Japanese culture. The meeting was followed by a question-and-answer session.
The meeting participants identified cultural exchange, educational programs, and increasing interest in learning Japanese as priorities.
The event was also attended by Mr. Tanimoto Tatsuya, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Kyrgyzstan, and Nuriya Kurmanalieva, Chief Specialist of the Information and Culture Department.
