On January 28, 2025 the Rector of the Kyrgyz National University, Professor Dogdurbek Chontoev, met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Kyrgyz Republic, Mr. Latif Gandilov.

The purpose of the meeting, held with the aim of deepening cooperation between the two countries, was to discuss further steps to strengthen cooperation between Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan in the fields of education, science and culture.

“The time has come to improve relations between Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan,” Mr. Latif Gandilov began his speech. “We must not lag behind the political leaders of the two countries but think differently and work differently. I propose to organize mutual working visits between the rectors of leading universities of Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan. After all, both you and we are undergoing economic reforms. Scientists need to study and analyze them scientifically and draw useful conclusions. I believe that our meeting will be an important step in expanding partnership between Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan in the fields of education, science and culture,” the Ambassador concluded.

Dogdurbek Chontoev thanked Mr. Latif Gandilov for his visit to the National University, provided brief information about the university, and expressed his support for the proposed proposal.

During the talks, the parties discussed other issues related to the organization of the visit and the improvement of cooperation between higher education institutions of the two countries, including the Kyrgyz National University and Baku State University (formerly Azerbaijan State University) and Azerbaijan State Economic University.

The meeting was also attended by the Consul of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Kyrgyzstan Shahin Iskanderov, the First Vice-Rector of the National University – Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Alaybek Shamshiev, the Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Relations Bakyt Keldibekov, and the Director of the Higher School of Economics Nuriza Musaeva.
