On June 25, 2026 the opening ceremony of a new hall for dissertation councils and PhD defense committees was held in Building No. 5 of Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn (KNU).

The event was attended by KNU Rector Professor Dogdurbek Chontoev, the chairs of KNU dissertation councils, and academic advisors for PhD programs.

The Rector congratulated the university staff on the opening of new dissertation defense hall and noted that the creation of a modern scientific infrastructure is one of the key prerequisites for the training of highly qualified researchers and the development of the university’s research activities. According to him, the National University currently has 10 dissertation councils in history, law, pedagogy, psychology, the Kyrgyz language, literary studies, mathematics, and economics. Work is underway to open new dissertation councils in chemistry, pedagogy (teaching methods), sociology and political science, history (ethnology and archeology), and philosophy. A total of 15 dissertation councils are planned. “The university currently has approximately 10 dissertation halls with modern technical equipment. Today, another one is being added. May the preliminary defenses, discussions, and scientific research conducted here be successful and contribute to the advancement of science!” concluded the Rector of Kyrgyz National University.

The chairs of the dissertation councils at KNU also congratulated the Rector on the opening of the new hall. They noted that the opening of the new dissertation defense room is an important event in the university’s academic life, then they briefly described the dissertation councils they chair.

The new dissertation room includes:

  • a videoconferencing system;
  • equipment for online dissertation defenses;
  • a multimedia complex;
  • workstations for dissertation council members;
  • audio and video recording systems for meetings.
