On January 29, 2025 the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the Kyrgyz Republic Mr. Kim Kwang Jae visited KNU and took part in the celebration of the Korean New Year «Seollal» — one of the most important holidays in Korea.
Before the event, he met with the Rector of KNU, Professor Dogdurbek Chontoev. The parties discussed issues of further deepening of cooperation between Kyrgyz and Korean universities.
The Korean Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan noted that KNU students studying in the field of «Linguistics (Korean language)» demonstrate a good level of proficiency in the Korean language and actively participate in events organized by the Embassy. — I want them to continue to improve their Korean language and contribute to the development of friendly relations between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Korea, — concluded Mr. Kim Kwang Jae.
The Rector of KNU thanked Mr. Ambassador for the warm words about the students of the National University and noted that during his visit to Korea last year, he personally met with KNU students studying at Korean universities, they were very happy with their stay in the Republic of Korea and the learning process. He then said: — Seollal is not only a symbol of the beginning of the new year, but also reminds us of the importance of family, traditions and respect for the culture of each nation. We are confident that such cultural events that take place today at our university contribute to deepening mutual understanding between our countries, expanding educational and scientific horizons.
In conclusion of his speech, the Rector of KNU congratulated the Korean guests on the coming of the Korean New Year, wished them good health, happiness and success in the new year.
The meeting was also attended by: First Secretary of the Embassy Mr. Tae Kyung Gon, President of the Women’s Council of the Association of Korean Citizens in the Kyrgyz Republic Ms. Kim E Ja, Director of «Good Neighbors» Mr. Cho Sun Hyung, Director of «Korea Friends of Nore» Mr. Yun Jong Wook, as well as Director of the DICR Bakyt Keldibekov.
After the meeting the Ambassador of Korea and the Rector of KNU took part in a ceremonial event in the Big Assembly Hall of the main building, dedicated to the celebration of the Korean New Year Sollal.
During the celebration, students of the Faculty of International Relations and Oriental Studies and the Institute of Foreign Languages, studying the Korean language, performed dancing, showed a presentation of Sollal, bowed «Sebae» in honor of the New Year, and sang Korean songs.
